Book: Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen

Reading Schedule:
Week 1 (11/21-11/28) read chapter 1 up to and including chapter 10

Predictions and Expectations:
  1. August is going to be killed either by the elephant Rosie or by a girl.
  2. We believe we are going to learn how our actions can cause problems in the future.
  3. We expect to learn about the traveling circus during Jacob's time period.
  4. We can compare the setting to other books that we have read that occur during this same time period.
  5. We have already learned that during this time period jobs were scarce and people were desperate to get a job. Knowing what we do about this time period, we think it will give us a special insider knowledge as to how the people in this book are really feeling and just how tough their lives have become.

Week 2 (11/28-12/5) read chapter 11 up to and including chapter 15
  1. Kinko and Jacob develop a friendship
  2. Marlena has an accident and bruises her heels during the elephant act.
  3. Camel gets jake foot which means that he has been poisoned from bad "jake" or cheap alcohol.
Week 3 (12/5-12/12) read chapter 16 up to and including end of book
